Birding
Kibale Forest National Park is a fantastic birding destination in Uganda, boasting over 375 bird species. The best times for birding are during the rainy seasons (March-May and September-November) due to abundant food and active fruiting, making it easier to spot birds, particularly those in breeding plumage. However, birding is possible year-round, with the dry season (June-September and December-February) offering easier access to trails and clearer skies.
Night walks
Guided night walks offer a unique way to experience nature, often revealing nocturnal wildlife. A night forest walk in Kibale National Park is a distinctive experience that offers a glimpse into the nocturnal world of the rainforest. Equipped with flashlights and guided by experienced rangers, visitors embark on a journey through the forest trails to encounter animals and hear the sounds of the night. This activity provides an opportunity to observe the park’s nocturnal wildlife and understand the complex interactions within the forest ecosystem.
Swamp walks
Bigodi is a birder's paradise with 138 bird species having been identified there including the crowd please Great Blue Turaco. The sanctuary is also home to 8 primate species including the black and white colobus, red colobus, mangabey, red tail, vervet, and L'Hoest. Go for a nature excursion in Bigodi wetland sanctuary. Your swamp walk (2-3 hours) will take you through some beautiful scenery. It is usual to spot 3 or 4 different primate species during this walk, one of the highlights is catching a glimpse of the Great Blue Turaco bird!
